A new year gives us all the chance to start anew. We all have an opportunity to start a new chapter in our book of life. Oh dear, did I really just say that? It’s all a bunch of bollocks really, isn’t it?
When the clock strikes 12, you’re not suddenly transformed into this magical, amazing person. A new day doesn’t change you from the person you were yesterday. You’re still going to be late for things, procrastinate deadlines, forget to put meat out the freezer in time, and look resentfully at the exercise bike in the corner. OK, that was a bit too specific to me.
Yes, I’m the first to say starting January 1st has a certain ring to it. However, nothing is going to stop you making that change tomorrow, two weeks, or two months from now. If we’re going to get all philosophical and bigger picture, calendars are a man-made concept. The Universe doesn’t care that it’s the start of a new year. I’ve seen too many things about how 2017 was so bad and that 2018 is going to be ‘the year’. You know what 99% will happen? The exact same thing will be said this time next year.
I’m not saying don’t make positive changes in your life for the better. I’m saying don’t be so hard on yourself. You’re going to make mistakes. You’re going to fuck it up and think you’re ‘such an awful person’ and a failure. You’re not at all. You’re just human like the rest of us.
No resolutions for me this year. I’m too busy being my great self from last year.
What do you think? Let me know in the comments.
