Are you kidding me?
For quite a while we’ve been edging our way closer and closer to the darker and darker Abyss. We started off with the pinky nudes, snuck up with taupe’s, then came right at it with “Whirl” and “Velvet Teddy” and “Stone.”
My first memories of brown lipstick are the mid-90’s, stealing my mum’s make up and feeling like I looked so sophisticated. Looking back now I realise I looked so cringeworthy and older, and not in a ‘oh look how mature I am’ way.
Even now when I try a dark brown, or even light brown, I always tend to look like I have chocolate on my lips, or I’m a forty year old goth. I like to stick to my more nudes with a hint of pink, it keeps me younger looking whilst still being on the brown spectrum.
We can’t talk about brown lips and not talk about Miss. Jenner… with MAC basically being carried by the sales of Velvet Teddy alone. Now MAC’s accountant is shaking in their boots, now that Kylie has brought out her own line on liquid lipsticks who needs to scour the make up stands? However, I don’t think MAC will be mopping their brow any time soon, you’d be lucky to score one before they sell out in minutes!
I think brown lipstick can look really good on some people; those with olive or dark skin tones. Those with a fairer complexion need to stick with me on the ‘Dusky Rose’ train.
