Quite earlier on this month (about two months ago) I bought the Makeup Revolution Ultra Base Corrector Palette. Now, it’s rare that a makeup product scares me, but I was frightened to try this.
It taunted me from the Superdrug carrier bag, mocking me behind the click of the palette. I think mostly it’s because I had NO IDEA what I was doing.
After watching a few different youtube videos, which is basically putting a lot of people out of work due to the fact that you can find a tutorial on pretty much anything these days, I had a tiny idea of what I should be doing. The most helpful video I found was this one from Pixiwoo about colour correcting.
So I grabbed my standard foundation brush and felt quite anxious as I ruined the perfect surface. One thing that did happen, which I absolutely hate but can’t avoid, is that as I picked up the product with my brush, it grazed the sides of the pan. There are few things that pick at my nerves worse than messy packaging!
I instantly noticed that the cream is very easy to pick up and you do get quite a lot of product from the brush onto the skin. I was pleasantly surprised at exactly how creamy it was, this made it incredibly easy to blend with other colours, concealer and foundation.
I do have a number of negatives about the palette, however I don’t think they take too much away from the positives. Firstly, if you haven’t moisturised your skin, the colour does tend to “stick” to the dry patches and make them prominent. Secondly, as I pick up the cream with my brush, it tends to clump(?) and gather, although I think that’s just something with creamier products in general, not just this particular one. Thirdly, When I’ve applied the corrector colours to my face and I go to blend, it does have a tendency to remove the product underneath like concealer. I found this more with a brush than a sponge, so I recommend bending with a damp beauty sponge.
During research and writing this I discovered that you should apply the correcting shades BEFORE you apply foundation etc to achieve true results. I’m definitely going to be doing that from now on, hopefully it will work even better than it already does and avoid the “sweeping off.”
I can’t help but think that this is a dupe of a similar product? If anyone knows the answer please let me know, it’s racking my brain!
See you next time!
